The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
